Modell DLOFurnace control system for continous annealing line celFCS-cal

The model celFCS-cal (celano Furnace Control System-Continuous-Annealing-Line) is responsible for gas rate controll respectively temperature control in a continous annealing line. After implementation of the model, furnace control is executed at all points in time and not just in case of strip changes.

With Gas rate control respectively temperature control of a continous annealing furnace without a model the problem can occure that...

  • in case of speed changes for an assembly line because of factory problems, strip devaluation is necessary because of overheating.
  • depending on the furnace operator, temperature regulation is executed differently.
  • complex strip changes can only be performed by experienced operators
  • in complex situations many settings have to be configured and observed by the operators

Because of those points the model celFCS-cal was developed:

  • to react quickly in case of speed reduction
  • to unify furnace control
  • to control the furnace during complex strip changes
  • to relieve the operators

To be able to realize those tasks, the model puts a multitude of boundary conditions into consideration, e.g.:

  • the heat absorption of strips can differ from each other, even if steel brands, dimensions, setpoints and production speed of the strips are the same.
  • the difference between an openly heated furnace part and an indirectly heated furnace part in terms of performance have to be considered during a strip change. As a general rule the indirectly heated furnace part is responsible for shimming and the quicker openly heated furnace part is responsible for fine control.
  • the stored heat from the cladding, which in the case of increased thermal output gathers heat and in the case of decreased thermal output emits heat.
  • the maximum allowable overheating temperature for the strip temperature, to allow for a strip change without under temperature.
